I’ve been using my Mark V Gemscope for a good 35 years and wouldn’t trade it for anything. For any diamond appraiser, there is no more important instrument. As old fashioned as it may seem, the 10X jewelers loupe can never be replaced. I always use it for the initial inspection and relooking at the details during the appraisal. I also use an electronic gemstone gauge to accurately measure diamonds and gemstones to determine approximate weights. I am never without my portable electronic gold scale so I can weigh the jewelry piece to help me determine the mounting value. If you only choose one item, a diamond ring appraisal would probably be your best choice.
